☆９月１２日イベント報告☆

９月１２日(日)は秋のディナーイベントの日でした♪♪

場所はアルクカフェ。今回夜に利用するのは、かなり久しぶりでしたが、テーブルコーディネイトや落ち着いたお店の雰囲気とお料理にお酒に♪とってもリラックスしたおしゃれなディナーパーティーになりました＾▽＾


参加者は子供から大人の方まで、年齢や職業(小学生から会社員・看護師さん・美容師さんに主婦の方までとバラエティーにとんでます)は全く違うんですが、今回の参加者のかたはイベント参加者の常連組が多く参加してくれたので、お互いに３か月ぶりの再会ですぐに話が盛り上がりました！！

イベントは私もクリスも大好きで完全に参加者として、楽しんでいるので時々主催していることを忘れて楽しんでしまいますが＾＾；、そんな中でも毎回気になるのがイベント初参加の方に楽しんでもらえているかな～という事。

１度イベントに参加するとそこでいろんな方とおしゃべりして、次のイベントで会った時にはもう顔見知りで近況報告～♪なんてすぐみんなとも打ち解けてもらえるんですが、やはり最初のイベントに参加するのはかなり緊張するようです＾＾

今回は１名イベント初参加の方がいました。Yさんは今年飯塚に引っ越してこられたばかりの６０代の女性なんですが、以前は関西で看護師をされている方でした。飯塚に引っ越されてまだ数カ月でまだお知り合いの方も少ないので、今回がいい機会になればとおっしゃって参加して下さいました。

参加者には２名現役の看護師と病院で医療機器の技師さんとして働いてある医療関係の仕事をされている方が多く、数年前まで関西で看護師をされていたので、仕事の話をきっかけに他の方ともお話しがはずんで、「とても楽しかった～！また次のイベントも参加したい♪」と言って下さったのでとても安心しました＾ー＾☆

今回のイベントは私が妊娠中で体調が安定せずに、イベントの準備やお知らせなどが少し遅れてしまって、参加してくれる方がいるかな～＞＜と少し心配だったのですが、いつものようにたくさんの生徒さんととっても楽しい時間が過ごせました＾▽＾ー☆

Culture Clash

It has been a while since I posted a blog...

Anyway, I have been here in Japan now for seven years and my life had settled into a routine whereby I really didn't notice much in the way of culture differences.

When Rieko and I got married we had a western style wedding so it was not that different to weddings I had attended in England.

However, as the birth of our first child comes closer, I am beginning to notice some very different ideas about how to raise and look after a baby. Some of the more interesting differences are things like naming the baby, looking after the baby and the role of the father and mother.

In England we choose names by their sound. They have no significant meaning. Thinking about names here is so much more difficult. You have to decide on kanji to represent the name and then must consider the number of strokes in the kanji. I assume the strokes issue has something to do with religion. However I can't understand the importance of this or whether it is really that important to Japanese people. Do people really believe the number of strokes in a child's name has some kind of effect on the child's life?

I am also hearing some strange ideas which I am finding hard to understand. I have heard a couple of times now that after Rieko gives birth she shouldn't watch television or read a book or her eyes will become bad. I can't understand why. Is there a scientific reason for this or is it a superstition?

As it comes closer to the time "mame" is going to be born I expect there will be some more culture clashes to deal with.
